Grape-variety: 100% Nebbiolo Growing location, altitude and soil: The Langhe (Piedmont), at an altitude of between 200 a 350 metres. The slightly clayey, calcareous white marl soil is of marine origin. Cru background: The Valeirano vineyard was planted in 1970, but the Valeirano label was first marketed in 1991. Wine-making method: The fermentation takes place in steel, with frequent breaking up of the cap and a maceration lasting around 10 days at a controlled temperature. After drawing off, and the resulting malolactic fermentation, the wine is racked into small and medium-sized oak casks, where it matures for 20 months. It is then bottled, without undergoing any filtration. Maturing and ageing in the bottle: After bottling the wine remains in glass for a further 14 months prior to being released. Description of product: Deep garnet red, with a long, complex, spicy bouquet, this wine is given a very long cellar life by great body balanced with appealing tannins. Bottles produced: Approx. 7000 bottles are produced in appropriate vintages. Yield per hectare: The yield in grapes of 4000 kg/ha is equivalent to 28 Hl of wine. |
